SEOUL, KOREA – A Korean-made SDN (software defined networking) solution, developed jointly by SDN venture firm Kulcloud and ADC maker Piolink, will be premiered at Open Networking Summit (ONS) 2013, scheduled to be held next month in the US. The SDN solution, designed for Internet data centers (ICD), comes in the form of a controller combined with a switch.
Piolink’s OpenFlow-based switch with an ADC (Application Delivery Controller) has been combined with Kulcloud’s SDN controller. SDN venture firm Kulcloud has joined hands with ADC heavyweight Piolink to enter new markets.
The annual Open Networking Summit (ONS), the world’s largest SDN exhibition, began last year. Large-scale suppliers like Google, HP, IBM, Huawei, Ericson and Cisco and SDN-related companies like Vmware (an American software company that provides cloud and virtualization software and services) and Big Switch Networks will participate in the ONS.
Park Seong-young, CTO of Kulcloud said, “We will unveil an IDC-optimized solution that combines SDN with NFV (Network Function Virtualization). Once this technology is applied to mobile networks, it will perform functions similar to highly-sophisticated network operating solutions like “traffic steering,” which was recently disclosed by global companies like Ericson.

쿨클라우드•파이오링크, 국산 SDN 솔루션 `세계에 선 보인다`
국산 소프트웨어정의네트워크(SDN) 솔루션이 국제 전시회에서 처음 공개된다. 컨트롤러와 스위치가 통합된 형태의 데이터센터용 장비로 시연 결과에 따라 상용화 가능성도 높다.
20일 업계에 따르면 파이오링크와 쿨클라우드가 다음달 미국에서 개최되는 오픈네트워킹서밋(ONS)에 SDN 솔루션을 출품한다.
파이오링크가 만든 애플리케이션딜리버리컨트롤러(ADC) 기능을 담은 오픈플로 기반 스위치에 쿨클라우드가 만든 SDN 컨트롤러를 합쳤다. SDN 벤처업체 쿨클라우드와 ADC 업계 강자 파이오링크가 새로운 시장을 위해 손을 잡은 셈이다.
ONS는 지난해부터 매년 1회씩 열리는 SDN 관련 최대 전시회다. 구글, HP, IBM, 화웨이, 에릭슨, 시스코 등 기존 대형 공급사와 VM웨어, 빅스위치 등 SDN 관련 신생업체들이 대거 참여한다.
파이오링크와 쿨클라우드는 올해 국내 기업으로선 유일하게 전시 업체에 이름을 올렸다. 국내 업체가 SDN에서 컨트롤러와 스위치 통합 시제품을 공개하는 것은 이번이 처음이다.
SDN은 각종 통신장비의 제어부를 가상화•집중화해 망 운영 효율을 높이는 신기술이다.
두 회사에 따르면 이번 전시회에 출품하는 연합 솔루션은 최근 새롭게 떠오른 소프트웨어정의데이터센터(SDD)까지 구성 할 수 있다. 파이오링크가 개발한 오픈플로 기반 스위치에는 방화벽, VPN, IPSEC(IP보안프로토콜) 등 필수 기능들이 실렸다.
데이터센터 내 네트워킹 효율 개선은 물론이고 서버, 스토리지 등 모든 IT 자원을 가상화해 다룰 수 있는 토대가 된다.
박성용 쿨클라우드 CTO(연세대 연구교수)는 “SDN과 네트워크기능가상화(NFC) 기술을 합친 IDC용 솔루션”이라며 “해당 기술을 이동통신망에 적용할 경우 에릭슨 등 글로벌 기업이 최근 공개한 `트래픽 스티어링` 등 고도화된 네트워크 운영 솔루션에 근접한 기능을 구현할 수 있을 것”이라고 말했다.
