Seoul, Korea - SK Planet revealed its automotive infotainment platform, SK Vehicle Infotainment Platform (SKVIP), on Monday.
`SKVIP` is a platform that provides specialized services by adding the mobile to the automobile. It provides a connected environment using the tethering function of smart phone. The drivers’ smartphones function not only as the mobile communicators for their cars, but also as the contents exchange hub.
The new platform relays a variety of services offered by the drivers’ smartphones to the drivers. SK Planet plans to expand the scope of cooperation with automakers to further develop the platform to be used for remote diagnosis and control of the vehicle.
SK Planet installed Smart Connect service developed together with Renault Samsung Motors to SM5 Platinum edition and exhibited the automobile in the Connectivity Experience Zone at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show to be held at KINTEX until the 7th.
Jangwook Kim, the head of LBS Business division at SK Planet commented that the company will work with more automakers to apply its platform to upcoming models and add the service exclusively for the electric vehicles.

SK플래닛(대표 서진우)이 차량용 인포테인먼트 플랫폼 `SKVIP(SK Vehicle Infotainment Platform)`를 1일 공개했다.
`SKVIP`는 모바일과 자동차를 결합해 특화 서비스를 제공하는 플랫폼이다. 스마트폰 테더링 기능을 이용한 커넥티드 환경을 제공한다. 운전자 스마트폰이 자동차의 모바일 통신과 콘텐츠 수급 허브 역할까지 담당한다.
SK플래닛은 `3D T 맵` `멜론`을 비롯해 사진, 음악 등 스마트폰에 저장된 콘텐츠를 공유하는 `심플싱크`, 친환경 운전 도우미 `에코드라이빙` 등 다양한 서비스를 `SKVIP`를 통해 제공한다. 회사는 SKVIP를 차량 원격 진단과 제어를 포함한 인포테인먼트 플랫폼으로 완성시키기 위해 자동차 제조사와 협력을 확대할 계획이다.
SK플래닛은 르노삼성자동차와 공동 개발한 `스마트커넥트` 서비스를 SM5 플래티넘 차량에 적용했다. 고양시 킨텍스에서 7일까지 열리는 서울 모터쇼 `커넥티비티 체험 존`에서 만나볼 수 있다.
김장욱 SK플래닛 LBS사업부장은 “르노삼성과 함께 선보이는 스마트 커넥트 서비스는 SK플래닛 스마트 카 플랫폼 전략 추진의 첫 결과물”이라며 “다양한 상용차 업체들과 폭넓은 협력을 통해 플랫폼 기반을 확대하고 전기차(EV) 전용 서비스를 추가하는 등 차별화를 추진할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.
