The main negotiation is expected to start from the next week, if early. Each side denounced each other as they filed injunctions and nullity actions one after the other.
In the meanwhile, the CEOs of two sides met earlier this year and decided to bury the hatchet, and the patent negotiation started. However, the lawsuits are still in progress at the same time the two sides are pushing for the negotiation.

삼성디스플레이와 LG디스플레이의 특허 협상이 본궤도에 올랐다.
업계에 따르면 삼성디스플레이와 LG디스플레이는 지난 3일 두 번째 실무진 회의를 갖고 협상 방식을 정했다.
이르면 다음주부터는 본 협상이 이뤄질 전망이다. 두 회사는 지난 15일 첫 실무진 회의를 개최했으며, 3일 열린 두 번째 회동에서는 앞으로 협상 진행 방식에 대해 결정했다. 협상에는 향후 양사에서 특허 전문가 2명씩 참석키로 했다. 협상단은 이르면 다음주부터 특허 협상에 본격 착수한다. 라이선스 범위나 가격 등이 모두 포함된다.
지난해 두 회사는 상대방과 관계사가 각 사의 특허를 침해했다며 소송을 냈다. LG디스플레이는 삼성전자와 삼성디스플레이가 자사의 유기발광다이오드(OLED) 특허 7건을, 삼성디스플레이는 LG전자와 LG디스플레이가 자사의 LCD 특허 7건을 침해했다며 각각 소를 제기했다. 침해금지 가처분 신청과 특허 무효 소송 등을 이어가며 상대방을 깎아내렸다.
그러던 중 올 초 양사 대표가 만나 화해하기로 약속하면서, 특허 협상이 시작됐다.
두 회사는 협상을 진행하면서도 여전히 소송은 진행하고 있다. 업계 관계자는 “이제 협상의 틀이 갖춰졌으니 특허에 대한 논의가 본격적으로 시작될 것”이라며 “아직까지는 순조롭게 협상이 진행되고 있다”고 말했다.
