SEOUL, KOREA – Personal mobility has basked in attention as an alternative to the electric vehicle (EV) market, which has been taking baby steps towards progress owing to issues like the building of large-scale charging infrastructures and mileage. Besides, personal mobility is important in that it can preemptively realize ICT-based smart car technologies.
A case in point is domestic R&D projects on baby health monitoring systems that connect smartronic baby strollers to smartphones. Smartphone-linked baby strollers can deliver existing telematics services like a navigation function as well as autonomous driving technology.
Personal mobility is in line with a “creative economy,” envisioned by the Park Geun-Hye administration, in which jobs and new markets are created through the convergence of different industries. In particular, personal mobility is expected to create new markets for small and mid-sized purveyors of auto parts and EV parts.
An industry insider said, “Personal mobility is an appropriate means of transport at a time when rapid urbanization and population graying have fueled a trend towards shortened urban travel distances.”
