Seoul, Korea - LG U+ announced on the 15th that it developed and commercialized backhaul equipment based on EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) for the LTE pico cell.
The backhaul equipment receives the data from base stations and transfers them to the backbone network. LG U+ had been developing the backhaul equipment together with Ubiquoss and Dasan Networks since late last year.
The EPON-based LTE pico backhaul equipment developed purely by Korean technology came with a feature that allows a back-up connection between the Optical Line Terminal and the splitter. When a failure takes place on one line, the equipment can switch the operation over to the normal line without the service being interrupted, allowing the telco to ensure its communication quality.
Also, the pieces of backhaul equipment for macro cells and pico cells can be managed by a master control, thus the equipment can be taken care of faster when a failure breaks out.
Cha-bong Choi, the head of Technology Development Center at LG U+ commented that the telco will increase the areas in which the newly developed equipment is used, to enhance its competitiveness in service quality satisfaction.
LG유플러스, 국내기술로 LTE 피코 백홀장비 개발
LG유플러스(부회장 이상철)가 롱텀에벌루션(LTE) 피코셀 분야에서 EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) 기술 기반 백홀 장비를 개발, 상용화했다고 15일 밝혔다.
백홀 장비는 기지국 데이터를 한 곳에 모아 백본망으로 전송하는 시스템이다. LG유플러스는 지난해 말부터 유비쿼스, 다산네트웍스와 공동으로 백홀장비를 개발해 왔다.
순수 국내기술로 개발에 성공한 EPON 기반 LTE 피코 백홀망용 장비는 국내 최초로 회선단말기(OLT:Optical Line Terminal)와 광분배기(Splitter) 간 이중화 구성이 가능하다. 장애 발생 시 서비스 무중단 자동 절체를 통해 서비스의 연속성과 안정성 등 품질을 보장한다.
매크로셀과 피코셀용 백홀망 장비를 통합 관리할 수 있어 장애 발생 시 보다 빠른 대응을 할 수 있게 됐다.
최차봉 LG유플러스 기술개발센터장 상무는 “LTE 피코 백홀 장비를 확대 적용해 타사 대비 서비스 품질의 경쟁력을 강화할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
