SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor will expand its automobile production capacity in China by 150,000 units a year.

Beijing Hyundai Motor, a joint venture between Beijing Automotive Group and Hyundai Motor, said on April 28 that it would increase the capacity of its Beijing No. 3 plant to 450,000 cars from current 300,000 until January next year in order to respond to a rise in automobile demand within the country.

 

Once the expansion plan is completed, Beijing Hyundai will have a total of 1.05-million-unit capacity in its three assembly plants, becoming the fifth-largest carmaker in China.

 

In November last year, the company reached the milestone of 4-million-car cumulative sales with a sales performance of 856,000 cars in 2012 alone. By the year's end, it aims to achieve a 1-million sales record for the year.

 

At the Beijing No. 3 plant, the company is currently producing models such as new Santa Fe and Langdong (Avante) but plans to produce the Mistra (Mingtu) in the new line.
