SEOUL, KOREA – Hyundai Motor’s Elantra came out on top in monthly sales in the Canadian auto market last month.
According the auto industry, the Hyundai Elantra sold a total of 5,535 units, beating out the Honda Civic (5,424 units) and the Toyota Corolla (4,654 units). The Hyundai Elantra also finished first in monthly sales in January and February of this year.
The Hyundai Elantra sold 16,872 units in cumulative sales between January and April, overtaking the Honda Civic’s 16,711 units in cumulative sales.
An industry insider said, “The Hyundai Elantra’s sales growth came amid Japanese auto makers’ stepped-up marketing campaigns backed by the weak yen.”
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor sold a total of 13,517 sedans and RVs in Canada last month. In terms of cumulative sales until April, Hyundai is placed fourth with 41,627 Hyundai vehicles sold.

현대 엘란트라, 캐나다 승용차 시장서 1위
현대자동차 엘란트라(국내명 아반떼)가 지난달 캐나다 승용차 시장에서 1위를 차지했다.
15일 업계에 따르면 엘란트라는 지난달 캐나다에서 총 5535대가 판매돼 혼다 시빅(5424대), 도요타 코롤라(4654대) 등 일본 경쟁 차들을 제치고 판매 1위를 차지했다. 엘란트라가 캐나다 승용차 시장에서 월 판매 1위를 차지한 것은 올 들어 1월, 2월에 이어 세번째다.
엘란트라의 1∼4월 누적판매는 1만6872대로, 지난해 캐나다 승용차 부문 1위였던 혼다 시빅(1만6711대)을 161대 차이로 누르고 1위를 유지했다.
업계 관계자는 “엘란트라의 판매 호조는 도요타, 혼다 등 일본 업체들이 엔저 효과를 등에 업고 판촉을 강화하고 있는 상황에서 얻은 결과”라며 “시빅을 제치고 올해 처음으로 승용부문 최다 판매 차종으로 올라설 지 관심”이라고 밝혔다.
한편 현대자동차는 지난달 캐나다 시장에서 승용차와 레저용 차량(RV)을 포함해 1만3517대를 판매했다. 4월까지 누적판매는 총 4만1627대로 포드, 도요타, 쉐보레에 이어 4위를 기록했다.
