SEOUL, KOREA - Korea Airlines said on May 15 it would resume the scheduled flights to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China, from the 28th. The airliner had begun the Incheon-Urumqi flight from 2004 during the peak season between May and October.
The twice-a-week flights (every Tuesday and Saturday) will depart Incheon at 7:40 pm and arrive in Urumqi at 12:10 am on the following day, with a flight time of 5 hours and 30 minutes. The return flights will depart at 1:20 am and arrive at 7:00 am (total duration of 4 hours and 40 minutes).
A Korean Air official said, "The Xinjiang area is seeing rapid economic development recently thanks to the Chinese government's big push. We will consider a year-round flight schedule depending on the pace of the area's business activity."
