Experts to Speak About Futuristic City, Technology New Songdo City to have everything except flying cars Many interesting topics will be presented by well-known speakers at the RFID/USN Korea 2006 Exhibition and Conference in November 2006. Among those are Whang Jong-sung, head of the National Information Society Agency (NIA), who will present on the topic of "RFID Project Implementation Status in the Public Sector." Also, Juno Kim of U-Comm Technology Company LTD will speak regarding "Mobile RFID Market and Technology Trends." In addition, Kang Hun will speak on the topic of "Incheon Free Economic Zone U-city Strategic Planning." Namkoong Bin of the u-IT Cluster Center will also speak on the subject of "Becoming a u- IT Hub in Northeast Asia." RFID public sector implementation Whang Joon-sung's speech will cover many RFID aspects. Among them will be strategies to revitalize the demand for RFID/USN technology, obstacles in the way to dissemination of RFID, and directions that RFID/USN technology will take in 2007. Whang will outline a three step process to create demand for RFID in the market. The development of pilot projects is the major first step, while taking full advantage of successful pilot programs is the next. This is all best done within government organizations. Finally, inducing the private sector to become involved in the new technology is the third step to revitalizing the demand for RFID/USN. The most difficult obstacle to overcome in adopting RFID, according to the NIA Head, is the lack of confidence that potential investors have in the new technology. Another obstacle which will be spoken about by Whang will be potential technical weaknesses of the new technology. A third obstacle standing in the way of RFID adoption will be the absence of a key RFID broker to market and sell the new technology. However, these obstacles are easily overcome by suggestions to be found in the speech. More exiting will be the section of the speech dedicated to the trends for RFID/USN in 2007. The Head of the NIA will speak about diverse fields in which the technology can be applied. He will also explain details about current pilot projects and their current status regarding success or failure. Finally, he will speak about field tests in which the technical reliability of the new technology is verified. It will be a very informative speech, all in all. Mobile RFID market Juno Kim will detail plans to include RFID readers into mobile phones. The representative from U-Comm Technology will begin with an explanation of the mobile RFID concept, and explain the current mobile RFID pilot program in Korea. He will include current service providers participating in the program and also explain a little about content providers and what they are currently testing. Kim will also speak about the upcoming trends in mobile RFID applications. He will focus on current technical details that the big three developers involved are focusing on. He will also cover partial and all-in-one solutions. The speaker will conclude with some topics regarding RFID infrastructure, including both current infrastructure and upcoming infrastructure necessary to take full advantage of the technology. He will mention leading companies in all aspects of the development of this technology, and cover when the first phones will come to the commercial market. Incheon Free Economic Zone Kang Hung will explain to us the latest version of the U-City vision for the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ). After that, he will spend some time explaining the current IFEZ USN plan. For those still unfamiliar with the area, Hung will give an overview of exactly what the IFEZ is, including detailed maps of the area. He will touch on what is currently built and what is planned for the future. The newly-created Portman Consortium investment area will be shown as well. In addition, Kang Hung will also explain the competitive advantages of the IFEZ both geographically and governmentally. Hung will also speak about the current status of all plans in this project, including the current budget and organizations involved in making the U-City a reality. He will speak about the current pilot projects going on in the sector, testing centers, and integrated control centers. Finally, Kang Hung will conclude with the strategic plan for the future of the IFEZ. He will speak about the plans for a creation of a city-wide data network. He will also detail the current strategy for implementing a ubiquitous sensor network (USN) in all aspects of life, including medicine, logistics, vehicle navigation, and social welfare. He will speak about the next generation plans for a futuristic roadway and the very interesting Intellectual Streetlight concept. Many people will be interested to hear about these topics. Becoming u-IT hub Finally, Namkoong Bin will talk about the logistics of becoming the strongest u-IT hub in Northeast Asia. He will answer many questions, including "Why did MIC make a plan to build the u-IT Cluster" and "What services will be provided in RFID/USN Infrastructure Facilities" The speaker from the u-IT Cluster Center of the NIA will explain the reasoning behind MIC's commitment to a u-IT Cluster in the IFEZ. He will explain the services, infrastructure, and engines involved, and the convergence that will inevitably happen among them all. In accordance with the theme of the conference, he will also talk about the advantages of New Songdo City's position. He will go on to explain where the u-IT Cluster will be located and when it will move to the IFEZ. Namkoong Bin will continue by explaining in more detail how his company will make the u-IT hub of Northeast Asia. He will speak about current budgets, current investors, and current and upcoming infrastructure facilities. Especially, he will also spend some time speaking about the USN Fab Center, explaining its future functions in great detail. He will explain its position in the value chain of the budding RFID/USN industry, and also go on to explain the other links in the developing chain in the IFEZ. There will also be a detailed time line of service availability from 2006 to 2009. Each year the center plans to launch a new set of services, until full operation will be completed in 2009. Namkoong will speak about that plan in full detail. Another interesting point that the speaker will cover will be a list of companies that have already come to the Incheon Economic Free Zone already. Over fifteen different international companies and their locations will be revealed during this presentation. Namkoong will also spend some time speaking about the economic benefits of the Free Zone, outlining the tax incentives that the government provides for companies who move into the area.
