SEOUL, KOREA - A total of 29 state-run energy companies will increase their hiring levels by 22 percent. The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy said on May 19 that the corporations would hire 4,287 new employees (including those already hired this year to date), up 21.8 percent from last year. This is 109 percent more than the 2008-2012 average hiring figure of 2,053. About a quarter of those to be hired (1,083) will be high school graduates with years of technical training.
For example, the electric utility KEPCO plans to hire 818 new employees this year after hiring 693 last year. Other state-owned enterprises with plans to employ more than 100 this year include Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (701), KEPCO KPS (325), Korea South East Power (255), and KEPCO Engineering & Construction Co. (223).
The ministry said the corporations decided to hire more as there have been increased demands for renewable energy resource projects, nuclear and thermal power plant operations, overseas resource development projects, and energy safety responses. For KEPCO, there have been more demands for offshore wind farm projects in the west and south seas and new power substation operations.
