SEOUL, KOREA - Daelim Industrial said on May 20 it has won a 123.3-billion-won project to build a Sungai Brunei Bridge commissioned by the Bruneian government. This is the first time for Daelim to land a deal to build a bridge in an overseas location. The construction contractor has entered the Bruneian market by winning a project to build a natural gas liquefaction plant in 1970.

The company will be responsible for architectural design and building of a cable-stayed bridge, access roads, 2-kilometer road expansion project, and two highway junctions.

The Sungai Brunei Bridge will be built across the Brunei River bisecting Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei's capital city. As of now, there is no bridge connecting the south and north of the city. Once the new bridge is completed, the distance from Kampong Sungai Kebun in the north to Jalan in the south would be reduced to 607 meters (the bridge's length) from current 4 kilometers.
