Changing the way the world communicates
SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com), the world's most innovative mobile carrier, is showcasing its mobile communications network and convergence technologies -- innovations which have already changed lifestyles in Korea and which are about to transform the way people communicate in markets around the globe. The company has consistently led the introduction and improvement of mobile network technologies including CDMA, CDMA 2000 1x, CDMA EVDO, HSDPA.
The latter two are high speed networks that have created opportunities for SK Telecom to provide numerous innovative convergence services. Following the company's proven success in Korea, it is now focused on providing the global market with access to its leading-edge technology and services. SK Telecom is, indeed, already a global company -- with an important presence in a number of markets -- and its debut at ITU Telecom World 2006, which runs from December 4 to 8, is symbolic of the company's growing international significance.
SK Telecom's goal is to bring the same creativity and innovation that made it Korea's top carrier to partners and consumers in its new key markets. Innovation, Inspiration is the company's theme at ITU, representative of the commitment not only to technology and service excellence, but also to lifestyle enhancement. Highlights of SK Telecom's participation at the ITU Telecom World 2006 include: HSDPA: Designed to improve the speed of data download over high speed networks, HSDPA transmits information three to seven times faster than the current CDMA EVDO standard. Users can make video telephony calls even while traveling at high speeds and download large VOD files such as music videos or 3D network games without the frustration of network timeouts. Furthermore, people can use their own phones overseas without having to trudge trough complicated roaming procedures.
Satellite DMB: SK Telecom is the world's first company to offer Satellite Digital Media Broadcasting (SDMB) service. With this service customers in Korea can access 15 video channels and 19 audio channels anywhere, anytime, even while riding on the subway. The entertainment options include sports, news, cartoons, music and more. Over 90 million customers nationwide now subscribe to the service.
Convergence Services: Entertainment, finance, home networking and many other services are available at SK Telecom customers' fingertips through convergence services the company developed to work with its high speed network. These anytime anywhere services are fun and convenient and can be easily integrated into mobile networks.
