The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) and the Korea Database Promotion Center opened the 2007 Database Grand Conference at COEX Intercontinental Hotel with 1000 participants on September 19. This fifth conference is under the theme of Data Governance Signification and Success Strategies. It will suggest solutions for data governance, which at this point is the hot issue of data control.
Vice President of IBM Andrew J. Warzecha was invited as a guest speaker to give a lecture on the newest trends of information control and emphasized the vital role of data governance. Here, SKT, Korea Exchange, and Woori Finance Group's projects were shown as a role model. Also, noting that data governance is composed of data quality, data architecture, metadata, and other new technologies, presentations were made on those areas' flow and ISO 8000 data quality control notarizing standardization. The 2007 Data Quality Control Award was also held at the event. The MIC Minister Award was given to Korea Export Insurance Company. The Kyobo Life Insurance Co., Korea Database Promotion Center, Korea Agro-Fisheries Trade Corporation, KTF, and KT were also given awards along the same line.
Director Lim Cha-sik of the MIC Software Promotion Division stated at the opening ceremony: "The database industry is the foundation of the knowledge-based information society. Please continue to develop database quality control without ceasing."
