SEOUL, KOREA - The tolls for the Incheon International Airport Expressway will be reduced up to 900 won effective on July 25, in time for the beginning of toll collection at the Cheongna exit. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation said on July 22 that it would cut the toll between Seoul's downtown and Incheon International Airport through the toll highway by 900 won for cargo trucks and 400 won for passenger cars.
Opened in November 2000, the expressway has faced so much public criticism for charging excessively high tolls. The government agency and private operators have said it was inevitable given the enormous construction cost to build the 4.4-kilometer Yeongjong Grand Bridge and the Banghwa Bridge in the west of Seoul.
According to the latest announcement, the tolls for passenger cars will be lowered to 7,600 won from the current 8,000 won while those for trucks will be reduced by 900 won to 16,800 won from 17,700 won.
For the interval between North Incheon and Incheon Airport, the rate will be adjusted to 3,700 won from 3,900 won for passenger vehicles and to 8,100 won from 8,600 won for trucks. For the toll between Cheongna and Seoul, it will be cut to 2,800 won from 3,000 won for small cars and 6,300 won from 6,600 won for large vehicles.
