July Consumer Prices Rise 1.4% from a Year ago

SEOUL, KOREA- The Korea Statistical Office said on August 1 that the July consumer prices have risen 1.4 percent from a year ago, largely due to a rise in vegetable prices.Consumer prices have remained at an early 1-percent level throughout the year, from 1.4 percent in February to 1.3 percent in March, 1.2 percent in April, and 1.0 percent in May and June.
 
Month on month, the July consumer prices increased 0.2 percent. The month-on-month figures from March to July has been within the range of -0.2 to 0.2 percent. As for the core consumer prices excluding the prices for farm goods and oil products, it rose 1.5 percent from the same month in 2012 and 0.1 percent from the previous month.
 
The core consumer prices based on the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's index excluding food and energy prices increased 1.3 percent from July 2012 but remained the same from the previous month. As for the livelihood price index, it rose 0.9 percent year on year and 0.1 percent month on month.
