Global large-size TFT-LCD panel shipments were 96.4 million units in the second quarter of 2007, jumping 22.6% from the first quarter and 54% from the same period a year ago. Revenues surpassed US$16.3 billion, up 26.4% from US$12.9 billion in the first quarter.
Notably, IT-use panel shipments were better than expected in the second quarter, contributing to the overall upward trend in shipments. By application, notebook PC and monitor panel shipments totaled 27.1 million units and 46.7 million units respectively, while LCD TV panel shipments surged by 32% to 19.6 million units in the first quarter.
On a supplier basis, the top three players, AU Optronics, LG Philips LCD, and Samsung Electronics comprised 61.5% in unit volume and 63.8% in revenues. In terms of shipments, LG Philips LCD took the lead with a 20.7% share, followed by Samsung Electronics at 20.4% and AUO at 20.3%. Samsung Electronics topped the revenue list with a 23.3% share, followed by LG Philips LCD at 21.5% and AUO at 19%.
