Q: The number one question is that everyone talks about a ubiquitous life, ubiquitous future and ubiquitous convergence but when asked for details many people don't have so many details to give. What is your opinion on the ubiquitous future that everyone is talking about

A: Of course a ubiquitous information society literally means that you can pass any information at any time anywhere on any device. We have a dream to have a whole Korean society in such a way. So it talks about hardware or portable device which is capable of providing u-browsing capability. So that is an example of a future device. In terms of service there should be a lot of converged service. Not only telephone and broadcasting or internet but they should be combined together.

Q: Will you be participating in this conference any more

A: Not really, this is focusing on more academic activities; I'm not an academic professor anymore. This is basically a data processing conference of a data processing research association. This conference is looking for answers for an IT next-generation growth engine. The panel discussion was especially designed to have a debate on whether IT is still a valued growth engine for the Korean economy or not. They are worrying that Korea can be sandwiched between Japan and China. Is it true, why is it true, how can you overcome that And also which area do we have to invest more heavily. So far we have been investing mostly on the hardware and manufacturing areas. They are talking about service and software, which one should be more important. Also we should choose the most important area in the convergence industry related to IT, what is it, how do you do it And what is the government's role in this. Those were the topics of the panel.

Very, very important sensitive topics today and I chose those debate items. We had limited time and it was so many people put into the debate but it was an interesting debate.

Q: Your Company is Skylake Incuvest

A: Yes, a private equity fund.

Q: What are you betting on for the new growth engine

A: Oh, I'm an IT man and absolutely IT areas. You can choose some specific items within IT sectors but IT will be the locomotive absolutely for the Korean economy.

I'm not involved in this research academic activity but they invited me to make the keynote speech and also moderate for the panel so I did it.
