Rho Jun-hyong

Minister of Information and Communication

Congratulations on the third anniversary of Korea IT times, and my warm regards to the staff and devoted readers. The Korea IT Times is an English-language publication that specializes in the IT industry and that represents Korea. Ever since its foundation, it has continuously played a big role as a window for informing the world of Korea's IT strength. Today, we live in an era where we harmonize with the world. The global village must compete and advance together. IT is a power that leads developing countries into growth and advanced countries into better lives. The success story of Korea's IT industry has offered a growth model to many countries and provided them with hope and confidence. When our efforts to cooperate with the world and bridge the information gap among countries become well known, Korea's global leadership in IT can steadily continue. The role of the Korea IT Times is important. I hope that the Korea IT Times takes a lead in strengthening Digital Hope Korea by widely informing the world of Korea's excellence in IT and the will to make contributions to the world. Also, I hope that the Korea IT Times continues to play an important role in the OECD's IT ministerial meeting that will be held in Seoul next year. Once again, my congratulations on the third anniversary of Korea IT Times and best wishes for continued progress.

Kim Woo-sik

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technology

In a recently announced evaluation of the national competitiveness by the Switzerland's International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Korea scored good ratings: 7th in the science category and 6th in technology. As Korea has grown to be recognized as a strong science and technology power despite the lack of natural resources, now is the time to further step up innovations in science and technology and prepare for a take-off toward an advanced Korea with an average national income of US$30,000. Today, science and technology are the most important themes for discussion and formulating visions of national policies. Moreover, this year marks a meaningful and important year: the participatory government will be completing its official term and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) observes its 40th anniversary of foundation. As this is case, the government will exert continued efforts to strengthen the competitiveness in science and technology. We will concentrate our capabilities to secure a dynamic force for future growth, expanding the research infrastructure and promoting the morale of researchers. At the same time, we will actively explore the future agenda of science and technology and transform them into policies. In making such efforts, we will do our utmost to successfully complete the innovation tasks for the nation's science and technology and bring about an advanced, science-based country of the 21st century that contributes to improving the quality of life of the Korean people. These efforts by the government will bear big fruits based on the support from the people. I sincerely hope that Korea IT Times, which greets its third anniversary this year, will raise the understanding of the Korean public by delivering government policies and the trends in science and technology with accuracy and depth. I also hope that it can widely inform the global society of Korea's prominent history and progress in science and technology. In addition, I wish that Korea IT Times will become an all-round, knowledge and information-based media company that understands not only the IT but also the overall dimensions of latest knowledge and technology and suggest policy directions. I sincerely congratulate the third anniversary of the Korea IT Times.

Im In-bae

Chief of the National Assembly's Science, Technology,

Information & Telecommunication Committee

Please accept my sincere congratulations on the third anniversary of the Korea IT Times. I am also grateful to all the concerned people and its readers. The Korea IT Times has played a significant role in letting the world know about IT Korea for the past three years since its foundation by conveying diverse domestic and overseas IT-related news to its readers. Furthermore, the monthly has performed in-depth analyses on the reality of IT Korea with sharp insight and offered hope toward the IT Utopia. Dear readers of The Korea IT Times, and all the concerned people, the IT industry has achieved fast development from scratch and has accounted for 16.2 percent of the GDP in about two decades. During the period, South Korea has established the world's top information network and its products, including the CDMA, semiconductors and TFT-LCDs which are recognized as the best in the world, have led the nation's export and economic growth. Business Week, however, recently has put 14 firms in Taiwan, eight in Japan, six in India and three in Hong Kong into the list of the world's top 100 IT companies. In comparison, only one South Korean company has been included in the list, giving a shock to Korean society. Such a situation clearly shows realities of the nation's IT industry which is at a standstill. Now we should find a next-generation driving force to prepare for a second development and should take initiative in constructing an upcoming ubiquitous society to lead it. We are going to witness another cultural revolution in the future in which wireless and wired telecommunication media and broadcasting are fused and content to make humans free in terms of time and space will appear. Your interest in and passion for the IT industry will greatly support successful settlement of such an IT revolution, I firmly believe. As head of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information & Telecommunication Committee, I will provide all the necessary political assistance for the nation's IT development. Once again, I am sending words of congratulation for the third anniversary of The Korea IT Times and I hope it will have an honorable future. In addition, I wish the readers' homes are full of love and happiness. Thank you very much.

Hong Chang-sun

National Assemblyman

and former president of KAIST

I sincerely congratulate the Korea IT Times on its third anniversary of foundation and for the progress it has made and continues to make in becoming a top English-language publication specialized in the information and communication industry. Indeed, it may be no exaggeration to say that the IT industry today is leading the world trend. The Korean IT industry, too, which is at the center of this trend, has made repeated quantum leaps of growth. According to export figures released recently, IT products have accounted over 30% of the nation's total exports. As this is the case, the IT industry has become an important engine of growth for the whole nation. In step with the advancement of the IT industry, IT publications have had a profound influence on individuals and businesses by delivering news speedily and sharing information on every IT related field. In this respect, the Korea IT Times can be said as a live witness that has been in company with the IT industry's growth. Among the many IT pub lications, the Korea IT Times, the nation's first and only IT publication in English, was launched with public interest and encouragement, and I believe this was a meaningful venture for Korea's IT development. Now three years after the launching, the Korea IT Times has firmed up its place as a source of information and knowledge representative of a global IT powerhouse, distributed to local and multinational IT companies and major institutions such as research institutes and IT-related government ministries. While the Korea IT Times is continuously having positive effects on the IT industry, its role as an information channel grows further in importance. The very task of providing IT-related information precisely and swiftly would have the same effect as providing the opportunity for Korea to step ahead of other countries in the IT field. I firmly believe that the Korea IT Times will play a pivotal role of informing the world of not only IT-related information but also Korea's status as an IT powerhouse. Last but not least, I wish that through the Korea IT Times we can discover an IT publication role model and look into the future of Korea as a global IT powerhouse. I hope that the Korea IT Times becomes the starting point for discovering future growth engines in the IT field. Once again, congratulations!
