SEOUL, KOREA- GS Inima Environment, S.A., the Spain-based water desalination and treatment company that GS Engineering & Construction acquired last year, has won an award from the International Water Association for its research contribution. The construction company said on September 30 that its affiliate GS Inima received the best Project Innovation Award in the category of water supply for its application research on "energy recovery from seawater brine by forward osmosis."
The International Water Association is the world's largest academic organization in the areas of fresh water supply, waste water treatment, and desalination. The award ceremony is to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, on October 15.
The forward osmosis technology developed by GS Inima can save electricity up to 15 to 20 percent when applied with seawater desalination plants. If the technology is commercialized, its parent company GS E&C will also benefit as it can act as a contractor responsible for engineering, purchasing, and construction. GS E&C is active in the markets of Latin America and North Africa where GS Inima has a large presence.
