SEOUL, KOREA- Samsung Electronics’ mobile messenger ChatOn passed the 100-million mark in cumulative subscriber numbers in just two years after it was launched. The company announced on September 30 that the number of subscribers to its messenger ChatOn passed the 100-million milestone as of the end of September 2013. This figure is based on the number of users who have registered accounts with ChatOn service. The number of ChatOn subscribers doubled in just four months after passing the 50-million level in May.
Key factors behind the rapid growth in the number of ChatOn subscribers include the “Galaxy effect.” Most of smartphones released by Samsung Electronics are mounted with ChatOn as a default option. The users of the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear, which were recently released, can use ChatOn without downloading it from App Store.
ChatOn is also enjoying popularity in India which has no local messenger service. A Samsung Electronics official said, “ChatOn is enjoying rising popularity in overseas markets, including India and China, plus in Europe and the Middle East.”
