SEOUL, KOREA- Samsung Electronics broke the 10-trillion-won operating profit milestone for the third quarter of this year.
Unlike any other major companies which reported sluggish results due to the global economic slump and stiffer competition, Samsung Electronics renewed its quarterly record again.
The company announced on October 25 that it posted consolidated sales of 59 trillion won for the third quarter, with an operating profit of 10.16 trillion won. Compared to a quarter ago, sales grew by 3 percent and operating profits by 7 percent.
The IT & Mobile (IM) division, which covers smartphone business, accounted for the largest part in the third-quarter sales and profit but the semiconductor division achieved the most outstanding growth in sales and operating profit.
The semiconductor division posted sales of 9.74 trillion won and an operating profit of 2.06 trillion won. This was the first time for the division’s quarterly operating profit to exceed the 2-trillion-won level since the second quarter of 2010.
