Samsung’s Home Multimedia Station, a home network and communication hub

Seoul, Korea, January 5th, 2009 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. will demonstrate its next generation Set-top box products at CES 2009 (January 8th-11th, 2009) in Las Vegas, USA. With its latest products and solutions, Samsung will reaffirm its leadership in the Set-top box industry in the US, the largest Set-top box market in the world.

At CES 2009, Samsung will showcase the Home Multimedia Station, supporting multimedia convergence solution and Next generation Widget set-top box, adopting widget and web service solution at the largest consumer technology trade show in the US.

Samsung’s Home Multimedia Station is a home network and communication hub. Through a DLNA solution, users can share multimedia content among the digital devices such as the Samsung Home Multimedia Station, mobile phones, Note PCs, and Samsung Home manager, commercialized by AT&T in last September. Using Home Multimedia Station, users can play their multimedia content – photos, music, and video - in their mobile phones or Note PCs on the TV in their living room. Moreover, they can watch the TV programs, stored in the set-top box on the mobile phone and check their mobile phone calls and messages on the TV. To enhance usability, Samsung has applied standardized User Interfaces to mobile phones, set-top boxes, and Note PCs.

With Samsung’s widget service, users are able to connect to internet services
Samsung’s Next generation Widget Set-top box brings the widget application on the set-top box. With Samsung’s widget service, users are able to connect to the internet services including shopping, stock and news search while they are watching TV. Next generation Widget Set-top box offers high quality video, supporting full HD content and 3D contents.

“As a leading company in Set-top box market, Samsung is excited to showcase our newest products in CES 2009. We will continue to develop innovative products and solutions based on the synergy among our divisions including Telecommunication system division, Mobile division and Computer division.” said Geesung Choi, the president of Telecommunication Business in Samsung Electronics.
