SEOUL, KOREA - E-Mart is set to release its in-house-developed low-cost mobile phone following earlier development of its own TV model. The non-smartphone developed by E-Mart is GEOLID (model name: GEOLID SK76G1) that will be sold at a price of 79,000 won (including VAT).
The GEOLID is planned by E-Mart and produced by SK’s Chinese subsidiary SKMtek. The aftersales service for handsets will be offered by TG Sambo.
An E-Mart official said, “To ease the burden of telecom bills on households, we first released MVNO phones last month and now developed a mobile phone model for ourselves to reduce the burden of handset prices.”
E-Mart’s new phone GEOLID supports Dual SIM—WCDMA (3G) and GMS (2G), thereby enabling users to use the same number both at home and abroad if they use a SIM card.
The retailer’s phone model targets the middle-aged people who do not need many smartphone functions, teenagers who are exposed to the risk of smartphone addiction, and the businesspeople who need a second phone for their business.
