SEOUL, KOREA - Following Shinsegae Group's announcement to hire a thousand of "flextime" workers, Lotte Group followed suit with a similar decision for women who quit their jobs early for childcare and middle-aged men who were laid off in mid-career.
The group said on November 12 that it would employ up to 2,000 workers who work between 15 and 30 hours a week on flexible time schedules. Even though they work fewer than 40 hours a week, they get paid the same bonuses and other benefits such as school tuition allowances and health and unemployment insurance as any other full-time workers. The Park Geun-hye government has been promoting the flextime work scheme as a way to reach the 70-percent employment ratio goal.
By group affiliate, Lotte Department Store will hire flextime workers as customer satisfaction lecturers while discount store unit Lotte Mart will invite specialists in product safety, services, and design. Lotte Cinema, Lotteria, and Lotte HI-Mart will also hire those responsible for sales floor management. Other units such as Lotte Card, Lotte Insurance, and Lotte Home Shopping will also hire employees who will work on flexible time schedule. Flextime jobs are ideal for those who are unable to work on a 9-to-5 schedule for reasons such as childcare or school work.
