About the Korea IT Show, which will be held at COEX, Seoul, Chairman Lee Kitae, Korea Association of Information & Telecommunication (KAIT) pointed out: "Despite the fact that Korea is a worldwide IT power among OECD countries, there has not been any global exhibition to be able to draw the world's IT corporations and buyers in Korea."
The Korea IT Show will serve as a global exhibition to represent the country that is equal to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas which represents the USA. As an exhibition which integrates existing IT exhibitions, Lee forecasts that well-known foreign IT corporations will come to take part in this Korea IT Show in the years to come.
Furthermore, small and medium sized IT companies at home which can't afford to go to foreign countries will get an opportunity to contact foreign buyers through this exhibition, he added.
Due to domestic market contraction and exchange rate decline, our country's comprehensive business circles faced difficulties in 2006.
Among such difficulties the IT business circle is managing to play a tractor role, Lee comments. Actually, the IT business circle gained export outcome worth 230 trillion won (US$256 billion) in 2006 and this year's IT business circle export is expected to be roughly 246 trillion won (US$262 billion).
On December, 2006, Korea celebrated its brilliant achievement of US$300 billion in exports, of which IT companies contributed US$110 billion, approximately 35%. Now that Korea's entire growth rate is anticipated to be about 4.5% whereas the IT business circle is expected to post 6 to 7% growth, the chairman stressed: "I believe that the IT business circle will give hope and encouragement to the nation."
