SEOUL, KOREA - LG U+ vice chairman Lee Sang-Chul said, "There is no problem for us to use equipment supplied by China's Huawei Technologies."
This is remarks in response to recent objections raised by two U.S. senators against the Korean company purchasing Chinese-made telecom equipment for security grounds. Lee said this on December 6 in a forum with reporters and added, "I still don't know whether our deal with Huawei is a political, diplomatic, or technical issue. If it's a political or diplomatic issue, we have nothing to say, but I would say something with confidence if it's a technical issue."
"The wireless communication equipment supplied by Huawei is certified by tests of the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement, the world's largest information security agreement. If necessary, we are willing to open technical sources to make it clearer about the security concerns," he further said.
He said, "Already countries like Canada, Australia, Spain, Britain, and Japan have introduced the same LTE network equipment from Huawei Technologies. Even SK Telecom and KT are using the same equipment. I don't understand why it should be a problem with LG U+. Earlier on the 3rd, Democratic Senators Robert Menendez, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Dianne Feinstein, chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said reports that Huawei had been chosen to build a nationwide LTE network for LG U+ raised concerns in light of the close security alliance between the United States and Korea.
