SEOUL, KOREA - Former Vice Chairman of KPMG Economic Research Institute Jung Yeon-tae won the individual achievement award at the 8th Korea Internet Awards in the recognition of his contribution to promoting Internet-related industry and internet culture of Korea.

The Korea Internet Awards is the most prestigious government awards since 2006 given to businesses, organizations and individual contributors. The award ceremony took place on December 11 at the Korea Chamber of Commerce Industry in Seoul, hosted by the Ministry of Science ICT and Future Planning. 

"I am honoured to receive such a great award. To me, this award is more deserved by many of those who have worked with me for related research and business for the past 30 years. I will keep devoting my best efforts to further promoting Internet and ICT industries of Korea,” said Jung, in his acceptance speech. 

The awards were handed out in four categories of Internet-related achievement– Internet business, technology leadership, social promotion, and individual achievement. A total of 16 companies, institutes and individuals, including Jung, were honoured at the ceremony; the grand prize went to SK Planet.

Jung served as a Former Vice Chairman of KPMG Economic Research Institute from 2009. He was born in 1956 and after graduating from Hwimun High School, he graduated from Hanyang University in Metallurgical Engineering and masters and doctorate degrees in Materials Engineering and Telecommunications Management at the graduate school of Stevens Institute of Technology, US in 1987. 

In 1994, Jung served as CEO at Wireless CATV system in US and was appointed President of the Wireless Communications Association International (WCAI). As President at WCAI, he participated in the IT business development and took on an advisory role on Korea's ICT policy and industry advancement based on his success in the U.S.
In 1998 Jung was appointed CEO of Multinet Korea Co., Ltd. and from 2001 he worked as an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Information and Communication of Hanyang University for six years. 

After serving as CEO at Koscom and Chairman of Korea’s MKE-affiliated U-Health Industry Association, Jung is currently filling various posts, performing his duties as an arbitrator and director at The Korean Commercial Arbitration Board within the Knowledge Ministry, Chairman at The Policy Committee on Science & Culture within the Education Ministry and a member of the Public Procurement Service’s Administration/Development Committee. 

As a leader of invigorating Korea’s early Internet industry, Jung made a significant contribution to the construction of Korea’s high-speed Internet network, suggesting a detailed measure on adopting a new technology of integrated wired and wireless network in 1993.
Since 2011 Jung has also been making great contributions to advancing Internet-related industries and improving Korean Internet culture by hosting Internet-related forums, including "Hope IT Forum", "2011 Prevention of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Using Internet Network". In particular, suggestions made at the "2013 Information Science Forum" held on December 5 will be enacted by advisory committee members to put forth the promotion of Information Security industry; the enacted proposals will be sponsored by legislators at the 19 the National Assembly.
