SEOUL, KOREA - The number of annual passengers of Incheon International Airport passed the 40-million mark, first in 13 years since its opening in March 2001.
Incheon International Airport, accordingly, has joined the rank of "large airports,"given that the Airports Council International classifies such airports with more than 40 million international flight passengers as a large airport.
The Incheon International Airport Corp. held a ceremony to celebrate the 40 millionth passenger at the Passenger Terminal at 11:20 am on December 25.
The annual passenger numbers of the airport stood at a mere 14.54 million in 2001,the first year of the airport’s opening. Thereafter it has marked an average annual growth of 6.4 percent, surpassing 40 million in 13 years. During the same period, the number of airlines using the airport increased from 47 to 84,while the number of cities the airport connects rose to 176 from 109.
