The Ministry of Information and Communication marked Indonesia as the third mobile broadcasting service tester. The test broadcasts were on air as of March 9. Such business was established when the National Digital Team of Indonesia suggested first to the Korean government to provide Digital Media Broadcast (DMB) encoders and mobile handsets as rentals.

DMB is well loved through out the world ever since its invention in 2005, since it allows users to watch TV programs on personal devices while they are on the move. South Korea, which was the first country to launch the service in 2005, is seeking to export its DMB technology and equipment.

"Korea has provided Indonesia with mobile broadcasting equipment to help the country launch a digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) service to get a foothold in the Southeast Asian market," officials said Monday.

According to industry sources, the Southeast Asian nation has a population of 230 million people and Korea definitely seeks beneficial business relations with the nation. Roughly 40 million of 230 million use mobile phones as of today and Korea expects the growth of cell phone markets in the nation to be just the way it developed in Korea.

Indonesia plans to test the service and the handsets for three months before deciding whether to standardize it or not.
