SEOUL, KOREA - VolkswagenKorea, which overtook Mercedes-Benz last year, grabbing a No. 2 spot in Korea’s import car market, first since it was inaugurated, is challenging for the top spot this year, aiming to sell 30,000 units here in Korea.
On January 6, Volkswagen Korea revealed this year’s sales target set at 30,000 units, up 16.9 percent from a year ago, while presenting Vision 2014, aimed at securing the top spot among import car brands this year.
Thus far, BMW Korea was the only among import car brands to pass the 30,000 level in annual sales.Volkswagen Korea sold 25,662 units last year, up 55 percent year on year, achieving the strongest growth among import car brands. This figure was higher than its 2013 sales target set at 24,000 units.
VolkswagenKorea plans to expand the sales of its flagship models, including Tiguan, which was sold 5,504 units last year, becoming the second best-selling model among import cars behind BMW 520d.
