GWANGJU, KOREA - Hyundai Motor plans to sell its next-generation eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to the Gwangju City government.
Hyundai Motor will sell five units of its Tucson ix hydrogen fuel cell cars to the City government of Gwangju. They will be used for the 20th World Hydrogen Energy Conference 2014 that will be held in June at the Kim Dae Jung Convention Center in the west of Gwangju in the southwest.
Hyundai Motor has been in talks with a group of municipal governments and public organizations that were selected by the government as pilot project sites to promote hydrogen fuel electric vehicles in Korea.
This will be the first time for the car maker to sell its hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to a domestic government agency.
The price of Tucson ix hydrogen fuel cell car is estimated at about 150 million won. When municipal governments purchase this car, the central government provides subsidies to pay for some of the purchase price and the cost to build hydrogen charging stations.
