SEOUL, KOREA - Sony is making forays into Korea’s smartphone market. It merits attention if it can crack the fortress of Samsung Electronics. The company announced on January 16 that it will release its strategic smartphone Xperia Z1 in Korea through KT on January 21.
The Xperia Z1 features a 20.7-megapixel camera and an IP58 vibration-proof and water-proof function. IP58 is safe from water penetration for about 30 minutes in swimming pools or bathrooms.
Sony plans to sell Xperia Z1 not only through telecom operators but also through its own retail channels and Internet shopping malls.
Pre-order sales are available from January 17 to 20 through Sony’s online store, Apgujeong shop, and KT Olleh.com. Xperia Z1 will come in three colors—black, white and purple. The retail price is set at 749,000 won. It will also be available in “value pack” that enables purchasers to buy Xperia Z1 at a discounted price together with headset, smart watch, and camera.
