SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics’ smart wristwatch Galaxy Gear commanded more than a half of the global smartwatch market.
According to U.S. market research firm Canalys, Samsung Electronics achieved the highest market share of 54 percent in the global smart wearable bands market in the second half of last year.
Following Samsung Electronics were Sony with 19 percent and Pebble with 16 percent. Canalys did not disclose details on sales by each company but estimated the size of the global smart wearable bands market at 1.6 million units.
Calculating based on such figures, Samsung Electronics is estimated to have sold 860,000 units of Galaxy Gear in the second half of last year. The company revealed in November 2013 that the sales of Galaxy Gear exceeded the 800,000 level. Canalys expected the size of the global smart wristwatch market to expand up to 8 million units this year.
