Korea Achieves 11th Rank in World

Korea's national competitiveness ranking rose with the 11th rank, up 12 in comparison with the previous year thanks to rapid ascension of science technology, corporate activity maturity, and corporate innovation.

According to the 2007 National Competitiveness Report, announced by the World Economic Forum on October 31st, Korea posted the highest ranking since this report began to be announced in 1996 as our country's competitiveness ranking rose from the 23 rank last year to the 11 rank this year.

As regarding science technology level, that level jumped from the twelfth rank last year to the seventh rank this year. Broadband Internet subscriber number (the second rank) and Internet user number are Korea's cuttingedges whereas cutting-edge technology use possibility (the twentieth rank), PC spread (the nineteenth rank), foreigner direct investment as well as technology transfer (the thirty-ninth rank) are weak points for us.

Corporate innovation and maturity degree rose from the 17th rank last year to the 7th rank this year thanks to the improvement of corporate innovation level. In the part of corporate activity maturity degree, corporate cluster (the third rank) and international logistics as well as marketing's domestic company occupation degree (the 4th rank) are out strong points whereas corporate marketing activity's maturity degree (the thirteenth rank) and authority transfer degree to the employees (the 21th rank) are weak points.

In the part of corporate innovation, corporate innovation ability (the seventh rank), R&D as well as investment (the sixth rank), an educational-industrial research collaboration (the fifth rank), the government's purchase aggressiveness about high technology product (the second rank), and invent patent number (the eighth rank) were rated highly whereas science research institute's level (the eleventh rank) and scientist as well as technology manpower (the thirteenth rank) were assessed comparatively to be low.

In the entire ranking of WEF national competitiveness index, the United States ranked the first position, followed by Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Singapore in a row.
