The Ministry of Information and Communication sponsored an Embedded Software Project at Kunkuk University on November 8. The project was managed by the Korea Software Industry Promotion Agency, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Korea Embedded Software Industry Council, and Institute for Information Technology Advancement.
The Embedded Software Project has been held as an annual service since 2003. The participants are given six months to develop the given assignments. The purpose of this project is to create a natural learning environment for the competitors who are mostly university students. Participating students experience the process of inventing embedded software that can be applicable for companies once approved. They also learn to be creative by using their ideas for assignments. This project has been set up to help prepare students for the real world. Meeting its goal, 166 winners in the last four years became successfully employed.
In the first year 280 participants competed in a project, but this year's project has 937 participating competitors. The organizers made 236 teams out of the 937 competitors. Out of those, and only 80 teams were chosen to advance into the next round. The grand prize winning team will receive US$10,000 and 28 more teams will receive other awards. The total prizes to be given out amount to US$50,000. The four universities with the most participants will also be awarded trophies. They are Hongik University, Kunkuk University, Youngnam University, and Incheon University.
This competition will be challenging the students to work with 2 pair of robots and will be assigning the students to use camera video sensing technology. The original and creative ideas of the participants will contribute to Hyundai Motor Company's newest project, driverless intelligent cars. Forty-one projects were also turned in suggesting creative ideas for the prevention of disasters, raising livestock, and cars. The winning pieces will be displayed at SoftExpo on November 29 to December 2 at COEX Convention Center.
