Seoul, Korea - Merck Ltd. (Managing Director: Dr. Michael Grund), Korean affiliate of Merck, a global pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company, received the ‘Tax Award of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance’ at the 48th Taxpayer’s day event, held at Pyeongtaek Customs Office on March 3.
This award was established to encourage awareness of tax payment by promoting good taxpayers. Merck received the ‘Tax Award of the Ministry of Finance & Economy’ in 2007. And Merck received Prime Minister Award at Foreign Company Day in 2007, Presidential Commendation of Korea Investment Award at Foreign Company Day and Leading Investor Award at Korea-EU Industrial Cooperation Day in 2010 appreciated contribution to economic development with continuous investment on R&D.
Merck has been striving to boost Korean economic development since embarked upon a business in 1989. Merck invested in R&D by setting up the Technical Center, which is a R&D center for liquid crystals, the first in Korea, 2002. In 2008, to provide high quality products in the rapidly increasing display market, Merck invested EUR 11 million in Korea for setting up its second Advanced Technology Center (ATC), which was inaugurated in May 2010. And Merck inaugurated OLED Application Development Center (OLED ADL) in October 2011.
