October is involved in a high demand season for the panel market, and notably, major home appliance manufacturers' demand for LCD TV panels taking into account year-end sales of LCD TVs has picked up dramatically, Displaybank analyzed.
Overall revenues were also up by 7.7% from the previous quarter and 48.6% from the same period a year ago to 7.76 billion dollars. This growth is largely attributable to the increase in major panel prices. The average selling price (ASP) was $200, up 3.3% quarter-on-quarter, and the panel quote also rose 1.8% to $9.28.
By company, Taiwan-based AU Optronics (AUO) made up 20.7%, allowing it to retain the top spot for the second consecutive month, closely followed by Samsung Electronics in second place with 20.4% and LG.Philips LCD in third place with 20.0%.
By contrast, Samsung Electronics maintained its No. 1 position with a 22.9% share in terms of revenues, and LG.Philips LCD follows with a 20.7% share. On the heels of the second player, AUO netted about 20.3%.
