SEOUL, KOREA - The four items that Samsung Electronics makes, including the TV, mobile phone, DRAM chips, and display panels, have surpassed the 20-percent level in the global market last year.
This is the second consecutive achievement after 2012. According to a business report by the company on April 6, its 2013 color TV market share (in quantity terms) was 21.6 percent, according to market research firm DisplaySearch. The color TV share has steadily increased from 2011 at 19.2 percent to 21.1 percent in 2012.
In value terms, Samsung's share can rise further. For flat-panel TVs, LCD TVs, and LED TVs, the company's shares were 26.8 percent, 25.6 percent, and 26.1 percent, respectively. That's because Chinese TV manufacturers produce low-priced mass-market items while Samsung focuses more on higher-priced larger-screen TVs.
As for mobile phone shares in 2013, Samsung accounted for 27.2 percent in the global market, according to Strategic Analytics. The figure has grown from 21.2 percent in 2011 to 25.1 percent in 2012. Of the 170 million mobile phones produced last year, Samsung has supplied 556.6 million units.
In terms of DRAM production, the company's share has shrunken year by year from 42.2 percent in 2011 and 41.0 percent in 2012. Still it is by far the largest DRAM supplier at 36.2 percent in the world market (based on IHS iSuppli data).
Display panels' market share accounted for by Samsung was 20.4 percent in 2013 (based on DisplaySearch data on large panels). Just like the share in DRAMs, the company's share in display panels has also declined from 26.1 percent in 2011 to 25.4 percent in 2012. Last year, the company produced a total of 8.26 million display panels.
