Korea and the US should seek green cooperation to create a synergy between the two countries, given their respective economic development policies based on a vision for green growth. Minister of Knowledge Economy Lee Youn-ho made these remarks when he addressed members of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), during luncheon held at the InterContinental Hotel in Seoul on June 8.
He asked AMCHAM members to help win early ratification of the Korea-US free trade agreement. He said, “To realize genuine green cooperation, it’s necessary to see an early ratification of the bilateral FTA and more lively exchanges of knowledge, technologies and personnel between the two countries.”
He went on to say that the two countries can further accelerate the realization of the green economy through cooperation, considering that Korea is carrying out policies to develop green technologies and clean energies and the US is implementing the Clean Energy Project. As an example of green cooperation between the two countries, he cited LG Chem’s supply of battery cells to General Motors’ Chevrolet Volt rechargeable electric vehicles.
