SEOUL, KOREA - A study said the average monthly pay of a part-time worker over the age of 15 in Korea was 613,005 won (about US$595), with the average weekly work hours reaching 21.5 hours. The region with the highest monthly income was the city of Daegu (637,165 won) and the lowest was the city of Busan (577,003 won). The average hourly pay across the nation was 6,550 won ($6.36).
 
Alba Paradise (Alba derived from a German word "Arbeiter"), a job portal with listings of part-time job offers, said on July 24 that it published the second-quarter part-time worker income index that took into account the average monthly wages and weekly work hours based on survey data on 8,639 part-time workers with incomes during the three months between April and June this year.
 
By gender, the monthly income of male workers (708,768 won) was higher by 175,165 won than that of female counterparts (533,603 won). In terms of hourly wage, men (6,800 won) earned more than women (6,299 won). Even in weekly work hours, male part-time workers (24.0 hours) worked 4.5 hours longer than female counterparts (19.5 hours).
 
By age group, those in their 50s earned most with 822,751 won, with their weekly work hours spanning 28.6 hours, the longest among all age groups. It was then followed by those in their 30s (788,930 won), 40s (751,299 won), 60s or older (738,095 won), 20s (576,647 won), and teens (347,458 won).
