SEOUL, KOREA - A local court ruled Kia Motors to give a regular worker status to its non-regular workers. On September 25, the Seoul Central District Court gave a verdict on the case brought by 499 non-regular workers at Kia Motors.
The court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, saying that they should be regarded as employees hired directly by Kia Motors and they have the right to demand direct hiring. These workers filed a suit in July 2011, asking Kia Motors to give them a regular employee status and pay delayed wages.
They, belonging to subcontractors of Kia Motors, had the same production work as regular employees working for Kia Motors. This ruling came after the court ordered Hyundai Motor to embrace its non-regular workers as regular employees.
