SEOUL, KOREA - Korea’s five major carmakers, consisting of Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, GM Korea, Renault Samsung, and Ssangyong Motor, saw their combined sales reach 696,640 units last month, up 8.2 percent year on year.
Hyundai Motor sold 389,748 units last month, up 6.7 percent from a year ago, while Kia Motors and Renault Samsung enjoyed a positive growth of 19.7 percent and 47.1 percent, respectively, to 231,902 units and 16,484 units.
GM Korea and Ssangyong Motor, however, suffered a negative growth of 23.4 percent and 0.8 percent each to 48,161 units and 10,345 units.Renault Samsung, in particular, achieved record-high sales since February 2012.
Their domestic sales totaled 110,660 units, up 9.5 percent year on year, while their combined exports stood at 595,980 units, up 8 percent year on year.Excluding GM Korea, the remaining four carmakers enjoyed positive growth in domestic sales.
