SEOUL, KOREA - The sales ofimport cars reached 17,027 units last month, the second highest monthly salesthis year, with the share of import cars in Korea’s passenger car marketpassing the 15 percent mark for two straight months.
The number ofpassenger cars sold in Korea totaled 111,862 units last month, up 5,300 unitsfrom a month ago.
By company,Hyundai Motor had the largest share of 33.2 percent, followed by Kia Motorswith 31 percent, import cars with 15.2 percent, GM Korea with 10.7 percent, RenaultSamsung with 5.3 percent, and Ssangyong Motor with 4.6 percent.
The share of importcars, which passed the 15-percent barrier in August first in history, remainedabove 15 percent in September, indicating that the sales growth of import cars wouldcontinue.
For theJanuary-September period of this year, the combined share of Hyundai Motor andKia Motors stood at 65.4 percent, down 4.5 percentage points from a year ago.In contrast, the share of import cars rose 1.7 percent to 14 percent from 12.3percent a year ago.
