Seoul Korea - Hyundai Motor’s Genesis and Kia Motors’ Sorento and Carnival were named as “Safest Cars of the Year” by the Korean government. These models are evaluated to be safer than import cars.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revealed on December 17 the results of its automobile safety inspection survey conducted with 13 vehicles. Large sedan Genesis achieved the highest score of 96.6, being honored as the safest car of the year 2014.
Following the Genesis were the Sorento with 92.1 and Carnival with 91.0 points. The safe cars of the year are selected through the NCAP evaluation conducted by the Korea Automobile Testing& Research Institute (KATRI).
The KATRI safety test consists of four areas—collision safety, pedestrian safety, driving safety, and accident prevention safety.The Genesis won a perfect score in the categories of front and side collision tests, with its overall scores estimated at 96.6.
