Incheon International Airport posted a record-high profit of 600 billion won in 2014. According to Incheon International Airport Corp. on December 31, its sales revenue for the year was estimated at 1.7 trillion won, with net profit reaching 600 billion won. The company had reported a profit of 472.1 billion won in 2013. Since its opening in 2001, Incheon Airport has consistently reported a positive profit for 11 consecutive years.
An airport corporation official said, "Thanks to free-spending Chinese tourists, our duty-free shops could reach a sales revenue of more than 2 trillion won. An increasing number of foreign tourists despite difficult economic situation helped us achieve the record-high profit level this year."
The number of passengers passing through the airport is also likely to be at the record level of 45.5 million. In 2013 the number was 41.48 million. As for cargo volume, it is estimated to have reached 2.53 million tons, up 3.9 percent from the previous year. The number of flights passing through the airport has increased 6.9 percent from the previous year. The airport authorities expect that the passenger number and cargo volume to rise in 2015 to 48 million and 2.55 million tons, respectively.
