Cisco’s DDoS solution Guard & Detector was a shining jewel during the recent DDoS attack. Kookmin Bank, which was expected to be one of the main victims of the attack, managed to survive without a single failure in client service, all thanks to Guard & Detector. Also, even websites that experienced slight delays were able to quickly repair and fortify their system configuration with the help of Cisco’s Technical Assistance Center, thus minimizing the damage.

Guard & Detector is a defense solution equipped with effective defense machanisms against DDoS attack, and is able to discriminate between normal traffic and traffic anomalies and recognize the attack patterns of a DDoS attack.

As an integrated service module for Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series switches and Cisco 7600 Series routers, the Cisco Anomaly Guard Module provides effective and extensive solutions to protect Internet service resources agianst massive DDoS attacks.

Also, the program was designed to meet the demands of big businesses for large capacity performance. It provides the best protection against increasingly complex and unpredictable attacks.

Moreover, the Cisco Traffic Anomaly Detector Module helps to intercept any network attacks from affected internet service companies, allowing the users to initiate an attack cut-off service before the attack can damage their business.

Based on the patented Multi-verification Process Architecture, the program actively percieves every type of online attack using behavior analysis and attack detection technology.

The biggest advantage of using the Guard & Detector solution is that it adopts the out of path method which curbs only the taffic headed to the attack system and lets the normal traffic flow in through an interior gateway, thus allowing a very flexible configuration.

Users were greatly aided in protecting the attack target websites from  zombie PCs during the recent 7.7 DDoS chaos by Cisco’s HTTP cookie-based authentication method and traffic restriction method.
