Gamers anxiously waiting for the release of Starcraft II will have to wait another few months as the official release of Starcraft II has been pushed back until 2010.

Activision Blizzard, developer of the game, announced at its second quarter earnings announcement that the release of Starcraft II has been rescheduled to early 2010. Confirming the rumor of the delay that has been circling among the gamers and the game industry, Activision Blizzard also readjusted its sales prospects slightly downward.

Activision Blizzard explained that “for improved gameplay, our account system called Battle.net has to be upgraded as well,” and “this will require more time.” The exact date of release cannot be decided for sure at this moment, but it will most likely be around the release date of Diablo 3, both in 2010.

There have been several instances where Activision Blizzard pushed back the release date of its games such as Diablo and Warcraft. Still, the postponement came as a surprise to users, as the exhibition of Starcraft beta and demonstration sessions had been scheduled for this year, raising customer expectations.

Due to the delay, the demonstration sessions that were arranged this year starting from America are postponed as well. Users are expressing contrasting opinions, as one side is showing great disappointment at the delay while the other is willing to wait a few more months for an improved game.
