- In 2014 alone, 1,511 foreign patients from 57 nations had visited the Wooridul Spine Hospital, up 35% from the year before.

The Wooridul Spine Hospital (WSH), based in S. Korea, has made it into the Medical Travel Quality Alliance (MTQUA) Top 10 World’s Best Hospitals for Medical Tourists for years - 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Also on the top 10 list are Malaysia’s Prince Court Medical Center, India’s Fortis Hospital Bangalore, Thailand’s Bumrungrad International, Canada’s Shouldice Hospital, Germany’s Asklepios Klinik Barmbek and Singapore’s Gleneagles Hospital.

Since its inception in 2009, the MTQUA, a US-based intentional organization, has been promoting better quality and safety for medical tourists by issuing the MTQUA Medical Tourism Certification for health and wellness providers and agencies around the world and drawing up policy. The MTQUA has been annually evaluating hospitals against 10 criteria, including medical quality and outcomes; availability of cutting-edge medical equipment; international patient communication and care management; patient safety and security; and transparency and disclosure. It also has briskly released professional publications in order to set up safe, credible systems for medical tourism around the world.

In 2014 alone, nearly 1,511 foreign patients from 57 nations (including China, the US, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Canada) had visited the Wooridul Spine Hospital (WSH), up over 35% from a year earlier. Recently, the number of foreign patients from the Middle East has grown noticeably, thus contributing appreciably to the year-on-year growth of 35%.

“Korean medical technologies are excellent, but it is still not easy for foreign patients to come all the way to a foreign country to get medical help. Thus, government-level promotions for Korean hospitals should be mounted on a continuing basis. I hope having the nation’s advanced treatment of spinal disorders, as well as other superb Korean medical technologies, certified by international accreditors will eventually lead to more foreign patients in the know about the nation’s medical prowess, therefore saving more people from the pains of various illnesses,” said Lee Sang-ho, Chairman of the WSH.
