Cho Min-ah became the center of the controversy with her overpriced bakery. She is former Jewelry member who turned actress, and became the owner of bakery. After receiving quite a backlash, her blog has been shut down. What caused this
With her experience in baking, Cho Min-ah opened a bakery in Ohryu-dong, Seoul named “Galaxy Goddess Cho Min-ah’s Bakery’. She uploaded photos portraying the backing procedures on her blog as well as photos of sweet bean jellies and cakes.
At first, it was a small bakery which her fans and regular customers visited. However, it became the center of attention when Jewelry announced official disband of the group on January 7th. As former members’ news were reported, her recent stories also drew much attention and her bakery became popular.
However, the public’s opinion soon turned to negative views. Overpriced baking goods, lacking sense of hygiene (she cooked without a baker’s cap with her long painted nails), and using a coin instead of baking stone received public criticism. Moreover, the controversy flared up as it was reported that she had forced her fans to work part-time without getting paid.
On the 8th, Cho Min-ah shared her side of views by releasing a statement on her blog. Her point is this: the photo of her baking without a baker’s cap was a concept photo. She also explained that she washed 500 won coin before using is as a pressing stone and that she never forced her fans to work for her for free. She also added that the baking goods might seem expensive because she used organic goods.
