Kia Motors announced on February 2 that it sold 252,774 units in and outside Korea during last month, down. 1.8 percent from a year ago. Domestic sales rose 8.2 percent to 36,802 units but overseas sales fell 3.3 percent to 215,972 units.
In the domestic market, passenger car sales fell 44 percent year on year but the sales of minivans and SUVs rose 7.5 percent.
By model, the new Sorento was sold 6,338 units last month, becoming the best-selling model among Kia cars. Following the new Sorento were a city car model Morning with 5,780 units and a minivan Carnival with 4,942 units.
Overseas sales marked a negative growth due to a 0.6-percent decline in domestic output and a 5.7-percent decline in overseas production. A Kia official said, “Our overseas sales fell slightly last month due to a decrease in the number of work days in our overseas plants.”
